Bike fans are in for a real treat during their visit to Forstau in Salzburg. Here, we describe to you the three most popular mountain bike routes in the area. Further information as well as bike maps are available from the local tourist office in Forstau.
From the town center of Forstau, you will ride south in the direction of Forstau-Winkl. The first 4 km are paved, then you come to a gravel road that is approximately 7 km long and climbs gradually. Eventually, you will reach two huts that offer refreshment possibilities, the Fallhausalm and the Vögeialm.
Here, you begin an "intensive" mountain biking tour up to the Oberhüttensee, which is also the site of the Oberhütte (elev. 1860 m), where you will be able to enjoy a well-earned bite to eat! Exercise caution as you ride back down the mountain!
From the town center, you will head north, past the Langeggteich nature sanctuary, through riparian woodlands until just before the Heimlscharte (elev. 1018 m). Then, you will make your way along the Eibenbergweg until you reach the Brandscharte.
At this point, a steep path will lead you through the Zaimwald forest down to Mandling. From Mandling, you will bike alongside the River Enns to Gleiming, at which point you finish your tour with a 3 km ride along the road back to Forstau.
From Forstau, you will ride along the road in the direction of Radstadt. After about 2.5 km, you will reach the turn-off for the "Fageralmen", now making your way up a variety-filled, steadily climbing mountain road. Initially paved, it will later turn to gravel.
Pedaling all the way up to the Fageralm definitely has its rewards. The views you enjoy of the entire region once you get to the far end, at Berggasthof Trinkeralm, are simply breathtaking!
